I Pokémon LIV.X hanno essenzialmente rimpiazzato i Pokémon ex e condividono con loro numerosi dettagli, come i bordi olografici, una potenza molto simile e la stessa rarità. Firstly, Pokémon LV.''X'' are treated as "Pokémon Level-Up" cards as opposed to Basic Pokémon or Evolution cards. The same rules apply as with evolution, however: a Pokémon cannot be Leveled-Up in the same turn as it is played or evolved and a Pokémon that is Leveled-Up will lose all {{TCG|Special Conditions}} affecting it (though only the Active Pokémon, not the player's Benched Pokémon, can be Leveled-Up). Proprio per questo, in ogni mazzo, è consentita la presenza di sole quattro carte con lo stesso nome: ad esempio, un giocatore può avere nel mazzo due Gengar e due Gengar LIV.X, ma sono permessi solo quattro Gengar in totale. Allo stesso modo, se una carta forzasse la rimozione dello stadio evolutivo più alto, in questo caso andrebbero scartati sia Gengar LIV.X che Gengar, lasciando solo Haunter.
I Pokémon LIV.''X'' terminarono con la fine della serie Platino del gioco di carte, per essere poi rimpiazzate nell'espansione {{GCC|HeartGold & SoulSilver}} dai {{TCG|Pokémon Prime}} e dai {{TCG|Pokémon LEGGENDA}}.
 
L'ultima apparizione dei Pokémon LIV.X nel GCC è stata nell'espansione {{TCG|Platino - Arceus}}. I Pokémon LIV.X sono stati rimpiazzati dai {{TCG|Pokémon LEGGENDA}} e dai {{TCG|Pokémon Prime}} nell'espansione {{GCC|HeartGold & SoulSilver}}.
