i [[Valori Individuali]] sono una parte della meccanica di gioco nascosta all'utente che determina le differenze di statistiche fra i Pokémon con stessa specie e stessa natura. Essi sono decisi nel momento stesso in cui il Pokémon è generato dal gioco: quando esso si incontra per la prima volta in battaglia, alla schiusa dell'uovo, quando esso viene affidato all'allenatore. Ogni Pokémon ha 6 valori individuali rappresentati da un numero fra 0 e 31 che aumentano direttamente la statistica del Pokémon. Ciò significa che la differenza fra due Pokémon con 0 VI e 31 VI è la stessa che vi è fra un Pokémon con 0 PA e uno con 124 PA nella stessa statistica. L'aumento di statistica dato dai VI, essendo intrinseco al Pokémon, è influenzato dalla natura dell'esemplare: 31 VI possono quindi fornire un apporto di 34 punti statistica.
===Controllo dei VI===
I VI sono una meccanica nascosta: essi non possono essere osservati all'interno del gioco in maniera diretta. Tuttavia le statistiche di un Pokémon sono decise da tre variabili: Natura, PA e VI. I valori individuali si possono dunque ricavare se conosciamo i primi due e le statistiche del Pokémon. Vi è tuttavia un problema: le statistiche di un Pokémon sono distribuite durante tutta la sua crescita fino al livello 100. Ciò significa che la differenza fra le varie statistiche è proporzionale al livello posseduto. Poiché i VI sono distribuiti anch'essi gradualmente essi sono poco visibili ai bassi livelli, mentre diventano sempre più espliciti man mano che ci si avvicina al livello 100. Vediamo un esempio: se si vuole ottenere [[Empoleon]] [[Sweeper]] - [[Pivot]], e per questo ci serve un [[Piplup]] con natura modesta e con dei buoni IV. Viene ricevuto per scambio un esemplare per il quale ci garantiscono con valori individuali distribuiti in 20 PS, 6 Att, 25 Dif, 31 Att.Sp., 29 Dif.Sp., 19 Vel. Vogliamo vedere le sue statistiche al livello 10, 50, 100. Invertiamo poi il ragionamento e cerchiamo dalle statistiche di ricavare gli IV
