Solamente coloro che hanno vinto 8 medaglie,che hanno passato l'esame della lega pokèmon o che abbiano frequentato l'istituto tech di pokèmon possono partecipare a questa competizione. Vi sono in totale 256 partecipanti. Il vincitore del torneo diventa il campione della lega pokèmon e ha la possibilità di sfidare i superquattro della regione.
Incontri
la competizione è costituita da 8 Incontri . Quattrodi essi sono dei preliminari e sono seguiti da due giorni di sosta,per poi dare inizio agli incontri finali.
Per quanto riguarda la posizione degli allenatori in base agli inontri
incontri preliminari : top256,top128,top64,top32
incontri finali: top16,top4,finalista,campione.
===incontri prelimnari===
In questi incontri , 256 allenatori devono competere in 4 diveris campi di battaglia: {{t|Roccia}}, {{t|Erba}}, {{t|Acqua}} e {{t|Ghiaccio}}.Tutte le lotte sono di 3 contro 3. I campi di lotta e gli allenatori vengono scelti casualmente da un computer.
 
===Incontri finali===

The Indigo League is very strict on what defines a ''battle'' and what defines a ''match''. A battle is one Pokémon against another one, and a match is made up of the individual Pokémon battles. The competition lasts for eight rounds. Four preliminary rounds span for four days, followed by two days of rest, and then the final rounds begin.

===Preliminary rounds===
In the preliminary rounds, 256 Trainers must compete on four different battlefields: {{t|Rock}}, {{t|Grass}}, {{t|Water}} and {{t|Ice}}. All matches are of three Pokémon each. The battlefield is decided by a game of chance, and the competitors are chosen randomly by computer. Only Trainers who win on all four battlefields will progress to the final rounds.
 
===Final rounds===
Final round battles take place in Indigo Stadium. All battles are [[Full Battle]]s, with the exception of the fifth round, which is the last round that uses three Pokémon each. Only 16 Trainers make it to the final rounds. Competitors are chosen by fishing for {{p|Magikarp}} labelled with a letter and number that match that of another competitor.
