I giochi sono divisi nelle varie ''[[Generazione|generazioni]]''. Una nuova generazione è definita quando esce un nuovo gioco a stile standard (quindi della ''serie originale''), con un nuovo set di [[Pokémon]] nel [[Pokédex]].
I '''Videogiochi Pokémon''' sono tutti i videogiochi del franchise Pokémon usciti fino ad oggi. All games in the standard style are considered the base, definitive [[canon]] for the [[Pokémon]] series. All other parts of Pokémon canon, including but not limited to the [[Pokémon anime]], [[Pokémon Adventures]], [[Pokémon Trading Card Game]], and the [[Pokémon Trading Figure Game]], are derived from the [[Pokémon world]] and concepts set forth in the games. There are currently 54 games known.
 
The games are split into [[generation]]s. The defining point of where new generations begin is when a new standard style Pokémon game with a set of new Pokémon added to the [[Pokédex]] is released. Games are also split between main series games and spin-off games. In most main games, the player can choose one out of three Pokémon to start their journey with.
